My Photo of the Week

swing

Yesterday I took my kids to the playground. It had been over a month since the three of them had been at a playground together, and it had been a long while since we had been to this particular spot. They had so much fun playing together and enjoying having the space all to themselves.

I took advantage of our time there as well and decided to hop on a swing. You know, it’s really hard not to smile while you are swinging. Truly. I actually found myself giggling a bit while I pumped back and forth next to my 4 year old.

Sometimes we take ourselves too seriously. Sometimes we get caught up in “adult world”. Sometimes we just need to jump on a swing and smile the afternoon away.

“If you’re always racing to the next moment, what happens to the one you are in?”

Each Friday I do our weekly grocery shopping trip which makes for a long shopping trip. Each week I take my four year old which makes for a really long shopping trip.

You know what? I am learning to let go of the need to race and rush through these weekly trips. I don’t want to spend my time in the store worrying about how long the trip is taking. I don’t want to ignore my child and blow through the aisles.

I have found our Friday shopping trips to be a great time of being together. My daughter helps me find items and places them in the cart.  Sometimes she pushes the cart. She sings songs. She makes other shoppers smile. We chat a lot and make our way through the store having a fun time doing a mundane task.

These are the simple, ordinary moments I hope she (and I) remember for years to come.

What about you? How are you keeping yourself from racing through the moments of life? I would love to hear your thoughts, so leave me a comment below!

Enjoy the little things in life for one day you will look back and realize they were the big things.

Love is letting your little sister use you as a footrest while she plays with your hair.♥♥♥

I have 3 children, ages 10, 8, and 4. Some of the moments they share together are beautiful, and some are not so lovely. Bad moods, unkind words, and selfish attitudes make for some moments that are not always photo-worthy.

I also have plenty of moments that are not photo-worthy. Bad moods, unkind words, and selfish attitudes (hmmm…sounds familiar) can plague me, too.

We’re not a perfect family, but we get up every day, and by God’s strength look to love each other through the good and the bad, the easy and the hard.

I’m thankful for the little, beautiful moments like the one captured above that remind me of the love that binds us together on even the hardest days.

Until next time,
Charissa

I couldn’t help but snap a bunch of photos the other day including this one. One of my favorite walks in the fall goes right by a beautiful river which is surrounded by colorful trees. I, like many, love this season for so many reasons including the cooler weather and vibrant colors. Next week I will be sharing some of the things I am loving this fall, so stay tuned for that!

In a recent post I shared 5 simple meals and included the snacky dinner.  The snacky dinner is definitely one of my kids’ favorite options.  We don’t have this all the time, but it is an easy occasional option for our family. Search through your cupboards and refrigerator and pull together a simple, tasty plate of food. Pictured above: crackers, slices of cheese, pepperoni, apples with peanut butter, cucumbers, and craisins.

This was my daughter’s lunch one day this week. It’s a typical lunch I pack for her (and for my son).  Items include: a homemade waffle sandwich with peanut butter, strawberries, cherry tomatoes, baby carrots, and a Stonyfield squeezer. My kids also bring a Camelbak water bottle each day.  There are so many cute water bottle designs! (FYI: Students in her school can eat peanut butter if they sit in a specified area in the cafeteria.)
